Cheer uniforms are so much more than a colorful top and skirt that girls and women wear to bounce around and supports their favorite team. Of course, it is important to get one with the right colors and emblems and one that looks great on the field. However, color and bounds are not the only things to take into consideration when choosing cheer uniforms. Comfort and athletic capabilities are also important.
All uniforms should match. If the school’s colors are red and black, that your uniforms should be red and black too with maybe a splash of white. All uniforms should be selected to look good on all the girls in the squad. While many of them are a bit sexy, cheerleading is an athletic pursuit and not just dancing around in a flippy skirt.
All cheer uniforms should be comfortable. The girls who are boosting spirit for the team are doing difficult athletic maneuvers like high kicks, straddle and pike jumps, pyramid building or lifts, flips and hand springs and other complicated gymnastic moves. Cheer uniforms must stay in place and stay flexible and nonbinding so the cheerleaders are comfortable and don’t get injured.
Most uniforms consists of a top or vest, a short pleated or slit skirt and a pair of “spankies,” bloomers or shorts to be worn under the skirt to ensure modesty and athletic comfort. Some cheer uniforms skip the skirt while others have long sleeves instead of no sleeves. All cheer uniforms are designed for show, but should focus on comfort as well.
